Hello! We’d like to introduce the new addition to Way Out Far: Scarlett. She was born last month and has been keeping us very busy as we get to know her. They say that a baby changes your life and we would like to tell “they” (whoever “they” are) that “they” are right! It’s been an exhausting, thrilling, emotional, happy, tiring, fascinating and wonderful time so far and everyday we’re so excited to be on this journey with her. It’s not a road trip for sure, but there will be plenty to see and do on the way no doubt! We’ve missed chatting about travel, so thought we’d let you know what we’ve been up to and what we have planned on Way Out Far this year….
As some of you may know, we use ZipCar to drive around London as it’s a cost effective way to own a car without the added costs of repairs, tax, insurance and such, and for the big road trips we like to hire different cars and vans depending on our needs. However the cost of driving out to see family who live outside London was getting pretty high, so we decided to take the plunge and buy a new car!
It’s a Peugeot 308 1.6L with a diesel engine which means it should be cost effective for all the times we want to hit the road and big enough to fill with tents, camping equipment, extra people, the baby’s buggy and the kitchen sink. We are parents now and so have to be prepared for any and every eventuality.
New Trip Planned!
It’s not really comparable to driving up the sub continent of India, but we are planning a mini road trip to Brighton at the end of March. It will be the first time that we plan to stay away from home as a family and we’ll be away for a total of two days. We plan to make a mini film to share with you guys and kick start our YouTube channel for 2015. We are planning to road trip mainly in the UK this year although flirting with the idea of driving to the Mediterranean Sea. We will of course keep you updated on our plans.
Our days of spontaneous travel are over for the time being now that we have a little one to look after. As much as we’d like to jump into the car or book a last-minute flight, we now have to think about how to do that with a baby. We still plan on keeping our travel fun going, but it will be a learning curve and we’d like to share that on this blog. There area lot of really great children and baby-focused travel sites out there (like here and here) and we’re not looking to try and better those, instead, we want to try and give our readership our own perspective of how we manage travel and road trips with a baby.
We still plan to share stories of old adventures that we haven’t written yet and provide advice and opinion when we think it’s relevant, it’s just that we’ll include some child-friendly advice in upcoming posts too.
Josh and I are so excited to be able to share our love of driving, the road, travel and adventure with Scarlett. Who knows, maybe even one day we’ll all go on the ultimate road trip across The Pan-American Highway together, which is our road trip dream.
We’d love to hear your thoughts and advice about travelling with a baby below or maybe you want to get in touch to recommend somewhere to visit in 2015. It’s great to be back!
